3/9/2007 - Vance Air Force Base, Okla. -- If you are interested in owning your own business on base, but want to skip on the start up costs, the Vance Air Force Base Family Child Care Office can help. The Child Care Office is now offering free licensing for those interested in becoming in-home child-care providers, through the 71st Mission Support Group. Child-care providers must be 18 and older, have a high school diploma and be able to read and write in English.

After the licensing, "it becomes your own business. The Child Care Office does not tell you the hours to be open or what to charge," said Pat Lentz of the Family Child Care Office. "You set the hours and cost, and you are responsible for the tax reports."

The Family Child Care Office provides CPR training, first-aid training and other training modules.
The Vance lending library contains equipment and materials, such as cribs, toys, high chairs, art supplies, books and outdoor equipment available for those with licenses.

Additionally, the Air Force will provide an inspection checklist documenting all policies the Air Force has concerning child-care. The Family Child Care Office will make sure all required inspections are completed, including the military public health and fire department inspections.

"There is a real need for people who will take care of infants and one year olds," said Ms. Lentz. "There is also more business in mildly ill care." This is care for children who are too sick to go to school or daycare, but would instead stay home and rest.

An in-home childcare provider can care for up to six children at a time, but no more than two children younger than 2. For more information, contact Terry Youngers, Child Development Center Director and Family Childcare Coordinator at 213-6406.
