Youth Services:
On YPG, volunteer and employment opportunities is
limited. A teen can volunteer at the youth center to help with the
school age during the summer. For employment, a teen can work at the
commissary as a bagger. The only down side is that you work for tips,
but the hours are flexible. When a teen turns 16, they can get a job
working at the Cactus Cafe as a dishwasher or as a
waiter/waitress. Or they can apply as a food service worker at the
bowling alley. Then there's always baby-sitting or mowing the
lawn.
YOUTH SERVICE'S MISSION: To assist youth in acquiring
knowledge, developing life-skills, and forming attitudes that will enable them
to become self-directing, productive and contributing members of
society. The Youth Development Service (YDS) program supports mission
requirements and quality of life standards by assisting commanders in fulfilling
their morale and welfare responsibilities to soldiers and their
families.
The YDS Fitness & Sports program provides a wide range of
opportunities for youth 6-12 years of age for participation in team and
individual, and fitness activities. The program emphasizes fun,

T-ball, Minor Little League, Tae Kwon Do. YDS Leisure and Recreation program
provides activities which promote social interaction, personal growth,
recreational skills, and educational opportunities. Programs include
music, dance, arts and crafts, trips, dances, talent shows, slumber parties,

from Youth Services:
The "hot spots" on YPG are the Youth Center, bowling
alley, The Underground (Christian hang-out for teens, open on Mon.), civic
center dances once a month, block parties in down town Yuma sometimes, and then
there's always Tony's pool hall. I would only recommend that if you
can stand the cigarette smoke. The radio stations out here aren't all
that. If you like teeny-bopper stuff (Brittney Spears, Sugar Ray)
then listen to 93.1. If you like R&B and hip-hop (TLC,
Blackstreet) then listen to 96.1. If you like 80's and 90's modern
rock (Korn, Limpbizkit) then listen to 98.3. If 96.1 and 98.3 don't
come in all the time don't be surprised. They are California
stations.
NOTE: There is also country at 95.1 and oldies at
1400 am.
