The military has many wonderful programs designed to assist families with children, beginning with a program dealing with new parent issues. One program, the New Parent Support Program that supports expectant families and parents of children birth to 6 years of age by enhancing the knowledge and skills the parents need to form healthy relationships and to provide safe, nurturing environments for their children. Participation is voluntary and available to families who live both on and off the installation.

Child & Youth Services Division (CYSD) maintains a variety of programs that meet the developmental and recreational needs of MCAS Yuma children and youth.  Child care services are provided at the Child Development Center (CDC) (full day, part day preschool, before & after school) for children ages 6 weeks through Kindergarten, School Age Services (SAS) full day summer fun and before and after school) for children 1st grade through age 11.  Family Child Care providers offer childcare in their on base homes in a family style environment for children 4 weeks to 11 years.  Middle School and Teen Program (MS&T) provides a variety of recreational activities for youth in 6th - 12th grades.  The Youth Sports (YS) offers a variety of year around sports/fitness activities and camps for ages 4-18 years.  Central registration is required for all CYSD Services.

The MCAS Yuma Child Development Center (CDC) is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young children (NAEYC) and certified annual by the Department of Defense.  CDC staff receives annual training with staff receiving their child Development Associate (CDA) Credential.  The CDC offers the following programs for patrons of the MCAS Yuma community.

The Full Day Program offers care for children ages 6 weeks through kindergarten years and is designed to assist parents needing 6 or more hours of daily childcare.  Regular hours for the CDC are from 5:15 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Early opening hours of 5:15 a.m. are for sole and dual military CDC patrons for physical training (PT).  The CDC will open for special functions held during evening hours.  For planning purposes, at least three weeks advance notice is required.

The hourly care room is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Reservations may be made up to 30 days in advance and the hourly care room cannot be used more than 3 days per week.

Part Day Preschool is available for 3-5 year olds from September to May.  Children can attend 2, 3, and 5 days per week.

Eligibility:
Children enrolled in the CDC must be a family member of active duty military personnel or DoD civilian and registered through the CYDS registration office. All children requiring care on MCAS Yuma must be registered with the Child Development Center, Bldg. 1085.  For registration information call (commercial) 928-269-2350 or (DSN) 269-2350.

Fees:
Full day and part day fees are based on total family income.  Parents must provide pay statements for both working parents.  Military parents must include their BAS, BAH (BAH equivalent if living on post).  There is 10% second child discount for children enrolled in full day programs for the same family.  

A waiting listed is maintained for most childcare programs and it is strongly advised for parents to place their child's name on the list as soon as possible.  Parents who are PCSing to MCAS Yuma or expectant mothers are strongly encouraged to place their child's name on the "future needs" waiting list upon receipt of their orders to MCAS Yuma or confirmation of pregnancy.  It is strongly advised to put your child's name on the waiting list as soon as possible.

School Age Services (SAS) is a section of Child/Youth Services Division under the Directorate of Moral, Welfare and Recreation.  The SAS program is currently accredited by the National School Age Care Alliance (NSACA).  The SAS program is also certified annually by the Department of Defense.  Staff is constantly being trained to provide quality service for your child by working towards a School Age Credential thru NSACA.
