Youngstown Air Reserve Station is a great place to be for a lot of reasons and the activities of our communities are part of those reasons!

PHYSICAL FITNESS:
Physically fit Airmen are important to the Air Force and our Fitness Center has gone above and beyond in outfitting itself with superior aerobic and weights equipment.  Most of the aerobic equipment feature a video screen for private viewing as well for a further incentive to keep on working.

For a more community oriented work-out, the Fitness Center Staff headed by Mr Kevin Hyman, provides spirited training and leadership for training develop proficiency for the FitTest whether through group trainings or through more team oriented sports and intramural leagues for sports such as softball, football, basketball, raquetball, and volleyball.

The base has a Commander's Cup Competition in which units compete in Services athletic events.  The Cup is awarded at the December UTA Commander's Call.  Come help your unit win!

There are showers at the Fitness Center and the standard rules about work out times apply, so a lunch-time workout goes well with the duty day.

SOCIAL OPPORTUNITIES:
The base is small enough that walking to and from any location is easy to do.  Several small groups walk together at lunchtime or before or after work for fitness or for social time.

In addition, there most buildings have been designed and constructed in a way that makes for a central area for gathering for a lunch meal.  If you have forgotten your meal or want to get out of the general area of your office, the Consolidated Club is also available during the days and on training weekends.  Lunch can be purchased for $3.50 to $8.00.

Special event social opportunities include:
1) the annual Family Day, held during the July UTA, in which the Family of the Year is recognized and a full day of getting to know each other, kids games, and entertainment abound.
2) the annual Mahoning Valley Chamber Social. The base takes part in this social, sharing what we do.  Periodically, it is hosted at the base.
3) annual recognitions of diversity in a variety of ways, usually through special events and meals
4) the Christmas Commander's Call in which special recognitions are made, including the Commander's Cup presentation, and special guests are available
5) the annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon held every National Volunteer Recognition week in April.  We treat the volunteers of Youngstown ARS to lunch and celebrate their accomplishments with stories, thanks, and presents.

PUBLIC SERVICE EVENTS:
Every Holiday Season the Marines on station run the local area Toys for Tots campaign.  Every year it gets bigger and bigger.  They collect toys and donations from the Youngstown Air Reserve Station Community by dressing up as reindeer and the like at the Main Gate at the December training weekend, but also in the local community.

The Cleveland USO provides gift bags to every member who deploys.  The gift bags include a doc kit, disposable camera, phone card, toiletries, snacks, sunscreen, and throat lozenges as well as a note on how to get gift boxes from the USO.  The USO is always willing to have members of the Youngstown ARS community volunteer to help with these bags or putting together gift boxes for mailing.

The Cleveland USO also provides toys for all children under the age of 18 in the Youngstown ARS community.  This is a fun event for volunteers to get to know the kids and share some Christmas fun through the generosity of the USO.

The Family Support Office has a variety of opportunities for base personnel and their families to volunteer either in the Family Support Office, on the base, or contact information on how to volunteer in the local community.  Volunteering is a great way to provide service, get to know a new community, build resume skills while looking for a job or going to school, to try a job on, or to keep busy while a loved one is deployed.  Try it!

RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES:
The base chapel is active only on the A UTA weekend and has limited services then.  Please contact the Chapel at (330) 609-1393/DSN 346-1393 about your specific needs and requests so that they can be accomodated.

ORGANIZATIONS:
The Chiefs Group is composed of the Chief Senior Master Sergeants on the base and encourages the development of the enlisted personnel as well as the overall commraderie of the base.  The Chiefs Group has sponsored some fun events that have helped them provide significant funds for things like Family Day and Quarterly/Annual Award recognition.  Chiefs interested in learning more about the Chief's Group, should contact the Chief Enlisted Advisor, CMSgt Glus at (330) 609-1150/DSN 346-1150.

Reserve Officers Association (ROA) is a civic minded group devoted to the service of the base community.  They support the development of Airmen by providing program support for recognition and education/development programs for members of the community. Officer's who wish to join the ROA should contact Maj Peter Milkovich at (330)609-1568/DSN 346-1568

The First Sergeants Council has an official function because of the position of the members, but the First Sergeants also work together to support the needs of the members of our community and to address them proactively through support, advocacy, and social events.

Friends of Family Readiness is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in support of the Family Support Office.  The Friends Constitution holds that they exist to provide emergency financial assistance to anyone in the Youngstown ARS community (Airman, Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Civilian, Family Member) and to support Family Support Office program needs.  All emergency assistance requests are reviewed as anonymous applications by the board.  Anyone experiencing financial difficulty is encouraged to call or come in to the Family Support Office to obtain instructions and an application for Friends of Family Readiness assistance.  All assistance given is a grant.
