Hampton Roads is designated as a Critical Housing Area.  Check with your local Housing Office, located in contacts/links, to learn how this affects your Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH).

You may encounter extended stays (1-2 weeks) at a motel or Navy Lodge in your search for housing.  Leases should have a military clause.  Virginia does have a statutory military clause, which has some strict notice requirements.  You are therefore strongly encouraged to make sure that your lease has such a clause.  Terminating leases early can be a very complicated area to navigate.  For further information and questions, please contact your local legal assistance provider for help.

Contact the Housing Welcome Center at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown for a listing of apartments in the area.  Also be sure to ask the Housing Welcome Center for information pertaining to the Rental Partnership Program (RPP) or, call Fleet and Family Support Center Newport News or Yorktown to receive a Welcome Aboard Package, which includes rental information.  Refer to contacts/links and Getting Started for additional guidance on renting and buying.
