LOCATION
Wright-Patterson AFB is located less than one mile from the city of Fairborn, Ohio, in Greene and Montgomery counties, in the Mid-West region of the United States. The City of Dayton is within 5 miles. The base is one of the largest and most important bases in the US Air Force. It is divided into areas A, B, C and Kittyhawk. Area B is approximately 2 miles from the other areas. The Dayton area is a moderate cost area.
HISTORY
The past, present and future at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base are all linked with the Wright Brothers' legacy. The Wright Brothers called Dayton, Ohio, home, and Daytonians have long since called their city the "Birthplace of Aviation." More information is available on the WPAFB homepage.
MISSION
The base is part of the Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC). The Aeronautical Systems Center (ASC) team, together with partners in government and industry, develops, acquires, and sustains the world's best aeronautical systems and supports customers with superior products and services. ASC also supports three other missions, which include the development of technology by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL); support of base infrastructure by the 88th Air Base Wing; and provision of quality health services by the USAF Medical Center (88th Medical Group).

POPULATION SERVED
The base has a workforce numbering approximately 22,000 people, making it the fifth largest employer at a single location. Nearly 10,000 of these people are civilians. Between 10-20,000 retirees also use the services offered by the base.
SPONSORSHIP
The INTRO Program was established to provide each incoming military member a sponsor. If your sponsor has not contacted you within 30 days of your departure, telephone the INTRO manager at DSN 787-2547 or commercial at 937-257-2547. The base has a 24-hour arrival point for military personnel who are newcomers. The arrival point is at the VQ, Bldg. 825, area A, 937-257-3451. Use Gate 12A. Information will be provided concerning your sponsor and unit orderly room, temporary billeting and meals. If you do not need assistance, then report directly to your unit orderly room.
A temporary mailing address should be established at once if you want to receive your mail without interruption. The temporary mailing address for ALL incoming PCS military personnel is:

TEMPORARY QUARTERS
Customers will find comfortable accommodations at the Wright-Patterson Inns. TLF have two bedroom houses with a double size bed in each bedroom and a sofa in the living room that makes a bed. They have a fully stocked kitchen, large refrigerator, stove, microwave, pots and pans, silverware, dishes, coffeepot, iron, ironing board, 1 large TV and a small TV in the bedroom. VQ rooms have 1 double size bed, microwave, small refrigerator, coffeepot, iron and ironing board, and TV. Reservations can be made by calling DSN 787-3810 or commercial 937-257-3810 and are usually booked 30 to 60 days in advance.
RELOCATION ASSISTANCE
The Military Personnel Flight facilitates weekly in-processing and monthly newcomer orientations. Newcomers can be scheduled for both through the orderly rooms.
The Family Support Center operates the Loan Closet. Newcomers can check out all necessary items to run a household, such as foutons, tables, chairs, dishes, and more. Contact the Airmen and Family Readiness Center at DSN 787-3592 or commercial 937-257-3592 for more information.
