Regardless of how well you've planned, emergencies do
happen. Sometimes just the overwhelming feeling of helplessness
occurs during a move. What should you do in case an emergency arises
during your relocation?
Be sure you have carried all of your important
papers with you - medical records, dental records, identification cards, and
birth certificates. Don't forget to handcarry those shot
records...you may not need them on the trip...but if you want those children to
get registered in school you MUST have them in Missouri. Carry the
phone numbers of your NEW Commander, First Sergeant, Orderly Room and your
sponsor. Also let Lodging know you have been
delayed. (That's where this booklet comes in handy, most numbers are
included).
Remember that the American Red Cross or the Air Force Aid
Society is always available for emergency assistance anywhere you may
be. Contact the nearest military installation (Army, Navy, Marines)
and inform them of your emergency. These agencies have agreements
with the Air Force Aid Society to assist. If you are not near a
military installation, you can contact the nearest American Red Cross Chapter
(phone numbers are usually listed in the white pages of the local phone
directory). These agencies will not only help you financially, but
may also contact the necessary personnel to let them know that you are delayed.
Air Force Aid Society can provide financial emergency assistance based upon
need, through either loans, or when there is a particular hardship,
grants. Categories of financial assistance include: Basic
living expenses (food, shelter, utilities), medical not covered by TRICARE,
dental not covered by Dental Plan, funeral expenses, emergency transportation,
essential car repairs, pay and allotment problems, disasters and assistance for
widows, mothers and children.
