White Sands Missile Range Policy:
All vehicles, including
motorcycles, which belong to permanently assigned personnel, must register their
vehicles in the office of Building 384. Vehicles may be registered from 8-11:30
a.m. and 12:30 -4 p.m., Monday- working Friday's. Please bring: proof of
ownership, insurance, and a valid drivers license for the persons registering
the vehicle (this license don't not have to be state of
NM). Motorcycles have additional requirements. Three-wheeled all
terrain vehicles can not be operated on this range. For more information call

Visitor Vehicle
Pass:
Visitors to main post must stop outside of the main gate and receive a
vehicle pass. The driver of the vehicle must show a valid drivers license,
vehicle registration and proof of insurance. If driving a rental car, the rental
paperwork must be shown in lieu of vehicle registration. If you do not have a
base identification, expect to have your vehicle inspected!
Las Cruces
Department of Motor Vehicles:
The Las Cruces Motor Vehicle Department is
responsible for titling and registering all vehicles and ensuring that new
residents have a current New Mexico Drivers License.
If you are a new
resident to the state of NM, then you must register your vehicle, unless you are
considered a non-resident ( see department of motor vehicles website for further
information).
When you go to get your new drivers license, which is
required for all new residents and you are between the ages of 18-24, then you
must take and pass the DWI Prevention and Education class called "None for the
Road". If you are over the age of 24, then bring your proof of insurance, social
security card or a photo id with you SSI number on it, and vehicle registration
to the DMV. There you will have the option to pay $16 or $32 for a four or eight
year license. (White Sands also offers a DMV on main post, it's located at the
Mueseum.)
Vision tests are required for all persons in order to recieve
your new license. A vision test will be adminstered at the time you turn in your
previous license. A license will not be issued to you if you have hasd a license
revoked, suspended or denied by any other state.
Sales Tax on
Vehicles
The state of New Mexico has a sales tax on all vehicles, both
new and used, all makes and models. The salse tax is half of the current tax
rate. Our current sales tax in Las Cruces is 7%, therefore currently the sales
tax on motor vehicles is 3 1/2%
