White Sands Missile Range is a remote
installation. Even if one parent has decided to remain in the home to
nurture the children, there are good reasons to register them with CDS, SAS and
YS. There will be times when it will be very convenient to have child
care readily available. Instances might include receiving shipment of
household goods, attending a volunteer function, or a dental appointment in
town. The children benefit from socializing with other children and
the directed activities at the centers.
Open Letter To Teens Moving to
WSMR: I moved here last year, after living in Germany for nine years,
and it is a lot better than you think. There are more things to do
here, and everybody goes to the Youth Center, so it is more fun. And everybody
knows everybody, so you always have a friend. There is a gym at the
Youth Center, and it is open until 11 p.m. on weekends. The staff is
very nice, you feel comfortable going to them if you have a
problem. Since White Sands is so small we are all like one happy
family, and our home is the Youth Center. Betsy Dekker, age
13.
Youth Sports Activities: A comprehensive program geared to
fun, fundamentals and maximum participation. Includes team and
individual sports, fitness and health education, and sports camps.

shorter than six inches above the knee, nor for shorts, extend below the
knee. Work style pants such as "Dickies" or "Davidsons" may not be
worn. Clothing must be fit within one size: no baggies,
saggies, or revealing styles. Belts must be solid traditional colors
without lettering, worn through every belt loop, with the end tucked
in. Tops can be red, white or light blue with a collar and sleeves
and be worn tucked in. No "ID" shirts except for the school logo,
flannel patterned shirts over the uniform, steel-toed boots, flip-flops,
slippers or sandals without back straps. Tights (worn under skirts or
culottes) and socks in solid uniform colors are acceptable. For
additional details please contact the school, (505)
678-3241.
(2) High
schools: There is a dress code in effect for the area high
schools. The following attire will not be allowed in
school: saggy or baggy pants, bandannas or hair nets, untucked
flannel shirts with only the top button fastened, khaki shorts with long white
socks and bedroom slippers, gang-style characters on clothing, oversized belts
with more than one buckle, bracelets or rings that can be used as weapons,
