Whidbey Island hosts a variety of communities which attract a growing number of small to medium sized businesses and several large retail stores.  Professional and technical career resources are limited.  A good resume, strong cover letter, excellent interview, follow-up techniques, and persistence in applying are necessary.

The Federal Government is the largest employer in Island County however, opportunities are limited due to funding constraints.  The next largest employment opportunity comes in the services industry (clerks, cashiers, restaurant and fast food).

For job hunting purposes; be sure to bring with you all employment records and information, resumes, federal resumes, SF-171, transcripts, certificates, licenses, and SF-50 (if applicable).

The nearest unemployment office is located in Mount Vernon, see contacts/links "Washington State Employment Security Office" for office location and information.

Military members retiring or separating from the service should contact their Command Career Counselor as soon as possible to enroll in a Transition Assistance Program (TAP) Seminar. Following the seminar the TAP counselor can provide assistance with career change options, resume writing, job applications, and other employment and transition related issues.
