The Naval Air Station Whidbey Island Housing Resource Center provides a variety of programs to assist new arrivals with their house hunting needs. They include the listings for both private and realtor-managed rentals; a Volunteer Realtor Service, staffed by local realtors, and a Rental Partnership Program (RPP).
The local community is defined as the surrounding areas within 30 miles or 60 minutes. Rental units such as houses, especially for families with pets are more difficult to find. Security deposits are normally equivalent to one-month's rental rate and pet deposits average one month's rental rate.
It is a standard practice in this area for property managers/landlords to have a credit check run on their prospective tenants. The credit check will include previous rental history, background survey, and criminal record. If negative findings arise as a result of this credit check, finding a rental may become very difficult.
