When first arriving to Whidbey Island, you will need to enroll your student with the respective school district. Parents should bring copies of report cards, verification of grade placement, credits earned, and any other pertinent information to assist counselors and school administrators in placing students in the proper level of instruction.
Currently Oak Harbor, Coupeville and Anacortes each have one high school. The average student population is: Oak Harbor High School, 1800; Coupeville High School, 350; and Anacortes High School, 500. All the schools offer a running start program where students with a 3.0 GPA can attend college classes thus allowing them to graduate with a high school diploma and possibly an AA degree at the same time. All the schools have extensive athletic and academic programs. Oak Harbor is a 4A school, Coupeville is a 2A school and Anacortes is a 3A school. Oak Harbor High School has a NJROTC program.
Each of the schools also offer a variety of before and after school extra-curricular activities. The Boys and Girls Club and the MWR Youth Center both offer after school activities for all ages.
Due to budget cuts, transportation is limited in the Oak Harbor area so be sure to ask whether your child will have busing available.
