Military spouses currently working Civil Service, those who have prior Civil Service and are reinstatement eligible, and those eligible under the Veteran's Readjustment Act (VRA) may be eligible for employment opportunities at NAS Whidbey Island.
Employment opportunities for spouses not in the above categories are limited due to funding constraints at NAS Whidbey Island. Any U.S. citizen can apply to a "direct hire announcement". However, in federal service, veterans have preference before spouses. Only U.S. citizens can apply for civil service positions. The Department of Defense is the major federal government employer on Whidbey Island. Island County also offers limited employment opportunities.
