Off Base Shopping
Shopping on Whidbey Island and the surrounding communities such as Anacortes, La Conner, and Port Townsend offer a unique blend of boutiques and small shops which provide a vast selection from local talent and Pacific Northwest artists. On island, basic goods and necessities are readily available but for more selection and hard to find items there are a number of malls and stores within easy driving distance in Mt. Vernon, Bellingham, and Lynnwood.
Currently the sales tax rate in Oak Harbor is 8.3%.
On Base Shopping
The Commissary and the main Navy Exchange are located on the Seaplane Base, close to on-base housing facilities and the Navy Lodge. The main NEX retail store features a mini mart, dry cleaning services, video rentals, photo lab, eatery, flower shop, garden shop, hair salons, optical shop, service station and Military ID processing service. A smaller NEX is also located on Ault Field and includes the Uniform Shop. The service station, auto repair and parts center, and food services are available on Ault Field.
The Commissary is closed on Mondays and open Tues-Fri from 0900-1900, Sat from 0800-1800 and Sun from 0900-1800. Disabled patrons may enter the store 30 minutes prior to these opening times. Military in uniform have head of the line privilege from 1100-1300. Food stamps and WIC checks are accepted at the commissary.
