Your housing allowance (Basic Allowance for Housing, BAH) will depend upon your rank and whether or not you have dependents (a single parent, married without children or married with children would be with dependents). West Point is considered a high cost of living area. If you live in government quarters, you will NOT receive BAH. Only if you are living somewhere other than government quarters will you receive BAH. If you have been allowed to live off-post or if in temporary accommodations waiting to sign for quarters, you will continue to receive BAH. In other words, the housing allowance is yours only when you are NOT signed for government quarters.
