  Welcome to Morale, Welfare and Recreation at West Point!  We at MWR heartily subscribe to the tenet that military families should enjoy the same level of services they would expect in their civilian hometowns, and we strive to enhance your quality of life at USMA though a variety of "First Choice" MWR services and products.  We are privileged to live and work at a beautiful and historic national treasure-there is so much to see and do here, and we hope you take advantage of the many recreational and educational opportunities at West Point.

The Directorate of Morale, Welfare and Recreation is comprised of six major divisions and several branch activities.
  

Army Community Service Division (ACSD)
Division Chief: Ms. Jill O'Brien
Army Community Service (ACS) was created to support the soldiers and their families. ACSD is the primary resources center for development, coordination and delivery of support services to the West Point Community.

Business Operations Division (BOD)
Division Chief: Mr. James Ruggerio
The BOD operates the West Point Club, the Five Star Inn, Bowling Center and the West Point Golf Club.  BOD also operates a catering and party facility rental service.  The following party facilities are available for your wedding, parties and other functions.  The Train Station at South Dock, the Class of '49 Lodge at Delafield Pond, the Golf Course Clubhouse and the Class of '48 Ski Lodge.  Contracting office representative for the Thayer Hotel.

Child & Youth Services Division (CYSD)
Division Chief: Mr. Don Hulst
CYSD office coordinates the various services that provide social support to soldiers and their families at West Point.  The branches of CYSD are Child Development Services (CDS), School Age Services (SAS), Family Child Care (FCC), and Youth Services (YS).

Recreation Division (RD)
Division Chief: Mr. Thane Kelley
RD operates Auto Skills, Multi Crafts, Posts Library, Ski Area, Intramural Sports, Information, Ticketing & Registration (ITR), Fitness Center, Morgan Farm and Kennel, Round Pond and Outdoor Recreation Programs.  The ITR office is where you can register for defensive driving classes; pay for quarters-cleaning contracts; make Boy Scout reservations for Lake Frederick; reservations fro Bull Pond and buy hunting and fishing permits.  

MWR Resources Management Division (MRMD)
Division Chief: Ms. Mary Himic
The RMD Office coordinates the various branch services that provide internal support for all of the MWR activities.  These branches include: Logistics and Acquisition, Financial Management, and the marketing Branch.  

Army Education Center (AEC)
Division Chief: Ms. Ramona Kausch
The Army Education Center helps the USMA community further its education! The staff is available to guide you with college degree programs; educational counseling; financial counseling for education; GRE testing, and more.


American Red Cross (ARC)
Director: Ms. Michelle Strom
The ARC at USMA is ready to assist you in time of emergency.  ARC also offers first aid and CPR classes.


Veterinary Clinic
All pets loose on West Point are brought to our facility. If you ever lose your pet, please check with us. Stray animals not claimed are available for adoption after 3 business days. Adoption includes first distemper and first rabies vaccination, de-worming, spay or neuter, and a microchip. We often have loving cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies available. Please call for details. Micro-chipping is mandatory for all animals residing on post.
Animals are seen by appointment only.

Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers (BOSS)
BOSS is a program that supports the overall quality of single soldier's lives. BOSS identifies well being issues and concerns by recommending improvements through the chain of command. BOSS encourages and assists single soldiers in identifying and planning for recreational and leisure activities. Additionally, it gives single soldiers the opportunity to participate in and contribute to their respective communities

West Point Visitors Center Museum and Tours
With almost three million visitors to West Point each year, this site is a busy place! The Visitors' Center houses displays depicting Cadet life and activities, including a model of a Cadet room.  A video of academic life is shown regularly. A gift shop operated by Daughters of the United States Army carries a large variety of souvenir and sports items. Bus tours with a guide are available for a nominal fee. A photo ID is required for all adults wishing to take a tour. The site also houses the West Point Museum, a large collection of military memorabilia.

Constitution Island Tours
Constitution Island is located across the Hudson River from West Point. It is part of the United States Military Academy, a National Registered Landmark. The Warner House and ruins of the Revolutionary War fortification are points of interest. The two-hour tour includes a boat ride on the Hudson, an escorted tour of 15 rooms of Warner House and a short walk to the ruins of Revolutionary War fortifications. Reservations recommended.  Adult approximately $8, Seniors and children (6-16) approximately $7, child 5 and under $2 with group rates available. The boat leaves promptly at 1300 and 1400 from West Point's South Dock.

AAFES Post Movie Theater  
Ticket prices are $3 for adults, $1.50 for children. The facility is open to all military identification card holders. Show times are generally 1930.

Scouting
For information on Scouting you can call West Point Youth Services. The Teen Council and the Keystone Club activities give teens opportunities to take ownership of and participate in Youth Services Programs.

STARS is the newest addition to West Point Youth Services program. Opportunities are designed for youth who are in grades 5-10. This exciting program started on 7 June 1999, and is operating seven days a week. A diverse range of activities including Sports, Trips, Arts & Crafts, Recreation, and Special Events are scheduled.

Shea Stadium is located down by the Hudson River. This facility includes a fully equipped track and spectator seating for convenient use.

Youth Ministry-Office of the Chaplains
Young people have opportunities to participate in nondenominational activities and unity projects. Young Life (grades 9-12) has varied meeting times. God's Gang (grades 6-8) usually meets Saturday evenings.
--God's TYM (Total Youth Ministry) is a parish program for high school teenagers which meets weekly on Sunday evenings from 1900 to 2100 in the Sacred Heart Church gymnasium in Highland Falls. Members participate in Christian unity service projects and can elect to participate in a retreat program sponsored by the Capuchin Youth and Family Ministry Center in Garrison. Adventure trips are also offered.
-TEC (Teen and Twenties Encounter Christ; TEC offers young adults the opportunity to build unity through group experience with exploring the mysteries of Christianity. Four 3-day retreats are held during the academic year. The group meets on Tuesday evenings and for 0600 Mass on Wednesday mornings.
-Chapel Choirs Opportunities to serve through the ministry of music are available at the Post Chapel,  (Senior, Youth and Junior Choirs, Handbell Choir); Most Holy Trinity Catholic Chapel,(Adult, Youth, Handball, Folk Group and Singers) and the Jewish Chapel.

Eisenhower Hall Theater
Eisenhower Hall, the Cadet Activities Center at the United States Military Academy, houses a two-balcony 4,500 seat auditorium. The hall's auditorium is considered to be the second largest theater of its type on the East Coast, second only to Radio City Music Hall. It has provided the stage for such plays as "RENT," "Footloose," and "Jekyll and Hyde," as well as Maureen McGovern, and Boston Pops. Season subscriptions as well as individual ticket sales are available.
BOX OFFICE:  0800-1130 and 1230-1600 Mon-Fri
The Box Office is open prior to performances for same-day sales. It is closed on weekends and holidays. However, for your convenience, there is a self-service ticket desk with order forms. The hours for the self-service desk are generally Monday through Friday, 7:00 am - 7:00 pm, and most weekends.

Residents of the Town of Highlands may patronize the following West Point activities:  
a. The West Point Golf Course is open to the public on a space available basis.
b. The Morgan Farm and Kennel is open to the public for boarding horses, riding lessons, and kenneling pets on a space available basis.
c. The Hotel Thayer is open for lodging and dining to the general public.
d. On 1 September 1999, the West Point Bowling Center entered a partnership agreement with the Town of Highlands, permitting Town residents to use the facility.
e. Youth Services announces special events that are open to O'Neill High School students.
f. The Transfer Station on route 293 (across from Round Pond entrance) is available to Town of Highlands residents for recycling and trash disposal.  Bulk items including demolition and construction debris may be disposed of for a fee set by the contractor at the transfer station.
g. Youth sports camps sponsored by the Directorate of Intercollegiate Athletics are open to the public.
h. Sporting events, Eisenhower Hall events, USMA Band Summer Concert series, and many other specially announced events are open to the public.
i. Since West Point is an open installation and attracts many tourists, the Visitor's Center, Museum, South Dock picnic area, and most of the grounds are accessible to the public.
j. The general public who secure New York State deer management permits may hunt on a specified area of the reservation.

*Town of Highlands residents are frequently welcome guests of authorized patrons of the many other facilities and programs available at West Point.
