Having a child with special health and/or educational needs can be especially challenging for military families. Services for special needs children vary from state to state and knowing where to go for high quality, current information is critical.

Isabel Hodge from the Military Family and Community Policy at the Office of the Secretary of Defense will provide an overview of useful Department of Defense and other government and non-government resources that families with special needs should be aware of.

Topics Include:
• Locating local, state and community resources.
• Government websites
• Evaluating online resources
• Connecting with other families

Brain Awareness Week 2010!

NMHM’s 11th Annual Brain Awareness Week is scheduled to take place from March 15-19, 2010. School children (grades 5-8) will learn about brain science through hands-on interactions with area neuroscientists. This program is for school groups and home school groups. Educators may schedule a group (minimum: 10 students; maximum: 60 students) for one of the sessions by calling the tour program office (202-782-2456). Morning and afternoon sessions are available.
