The spouse employment preference program is a preference for
employment in DOD appropriate fund civilians positions for which the military
family member is best qualified at grade levels GS-5 through
GS/GM-15. Military spouses are assigned as category 3's under the DOD
priority placement program, which has to be, cleared for all merit staff type
advertisements. Military members transferring to the Wallops Island
should be sure to register for this area as soon as the active duty member
receives orders for this area. There are few vacancies at SCSC, but
on occasion we have to advertise hard to fill positions to the general
public.
If the family member has previous government work experience,
preference can be exercised up to the highest grade level ever
held. Spouses of active duty military personnel of the DOD with
personal civil service status (i.e., current career or career conditional
employees, reinstatement eligible) should apply to the Human Resource Center,
Naval Sea Systems Command for available positions.Government personnel offices
for Surface Combat Systems Center and NASA are open Monday through Friday from
0900-1700 and provide and full range of services.
Non-Appropriated Fund
employees provide housekeeping services to SCSC in the Officer and Enlisted
Quarters. These services include laundry, changing linens, and
general cleanliness of the rooms in both these areas. A Bookkeeper is
also on staff through this type of funding.
