No matter how well you've planned, emergencies do
happen. You need to know that you have help along the way while you
are traveling.
First of all, make sure you have all important papers with
you - not packed with yor household goods. If you are in transit and
need emergency assistance, locate the nearest military installation for
help. If there is no installation in the area, call the local
informaton operator emergency numbers. It would be wise to have a
number of the base Command Duty Officer and your sponsor's number in case of
emergency while in transit.Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society can provide
emergency assistance based upon need, through either loans or in some cases,
grants. Categories of financial assistance include: Basic living
expenses (food, shelter and utilities); emergency transportation, essential car
repairs, pay and allotment problems, disasters and assistance for widows,
mothers and children.
The American Red Cross can also help in time of
emergency. Quick communications with home, regarding family
emergencies is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The American
Red Cross also offers financial assistance for military personnel and their
immediate family in the form of interest free loans.
