345 TRS located at Port Hueneme, approx 2 hrs south of VAFB.  The Air Force (DET 1, 345TRS) arrived at Port Hueneme in October 1995 to support a Joint Service School for Vehicle Mechanics.

All "basic course" students (to include technical students straight out of BMTS as well as prior service guard and reserve) start school in what is known as "Common Core."  Common Core has Air Force, Navy, and civilian instructors.  After their first 51 days of training at Common Core, the basic students go to the "Air Force Unique" area to be trained in their specific AFSC (General Purpose, Special Purpose, Fire trucks, etc).

Air Force Unique also has advanced mechanics courses as well as 7-level and Superintendent classes.  They also house CDC writers who write the CDCs for the vehicle maintenance field.  The Detachment has approximately 70 permanent party instructors, CDC writers, and support staff.  Be sure to view the SITES listing for Port Hueneme for more facts and information about the installation.

750 SGP/DET 1 (Vandenberg Tracking Station) is located on Vandenberg AFB, 7 miles from the main gate.
