Contact the Civilian Personnel Office for specific information on
how to apply for available positions with spouse preference. In
addition to the Civilian Personnel Office and the California State Employment
Development Department, the following agencies can put you in touch with
Federal, State, County and jobs with local contractors. For a current
listing of base contractors, contact the TAP office at DSN: 275-0134, request
your sponsor pick up a copy, or visit the office on
arrival. Contractors will accept resumes and if interested in the
applicant, will send an application for further information.
The Military
Spouse Preference (MSP) is a Department of Defense (DoD) program for spouses of
active duty military members of the U.S. Armed Forces (including Coast Guard),
who relocate to accompany their sponsor on a permanent change of station (PCS)
move. Military spouses are eligible to request MSP hiring preference
regardless of current employment status, except when preference, if granted,
would violate statutes or regulations governing veterans' preference or
nepotism. To receive MSP, you must:
Be married to the military
sponsor prior to the reporting date to the new assignment; Relocate
based on PCS move and not for separation or retirement; Apply for a
vacancy in the commuting area of your sponsor's permanent new duty station; AND
Rate among the "best qualified" group and be within reach for
selection. Best qualified under DEU announcements is defined as
having a rating of 80 or higher.
Spouses of active duty military members
of the U.S. Armed Forces may be eligible for military spouse preference when
applying for DoD positions DEU competitive announcement. Applicants
currently employed in an Appropriated (GS/FWS), NAF, or AAFES position expected
to last 1 year or more are not eligible to apply for spouse
preference. To receive consideration for military spouse preference,
you must:
Have a current resume on file; Check the "Military Spouse
Preference" eligibility block in the Supplemental Data; AND
Self-nominate for
the position you wish to be considered.
NOTE: You must submit
a copy of your spouse's orders within 5 days if tentatively selected for a
position
