All active duty military personnel are provided complete dental
service at the installation dental clinic. Retirees may be seen on a
space-available basis.
TRICARE Dental Plan (TDP): A voluntary
Comprehensive dental plan available to family members of all active duty
Uniformed Services personnel. When the active duty member (sponsor) enrolls
family members in the TDP, a monthly premium is paid through payroll deduction.
The plan has cost shares, maximums, and limitations similar to typical civilian
dental group plans. The amount covered by the plan ranges from 100 percent to 50
percent, depending on the type of service. Family members must receive dental
services in the United States, Canada, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, or Puerto
Rico.
What does moving have to do with your family's dental care?
For
one thing, you'll be looking for a new family dentist. Even if family members
are not due for dental services, it's a good idea to select and get to know a
dentist near your home as soon as possible. If a family member needs dental
emergency treatment, it's usually a lot easier to get an immediate appointment
with a dentist if your family members are regular patients. So, it's a good idea
to locate a new dentist before an emergency arises. The best way to find a new
dentist? - Ask friends, neighbors, and co-workers at your new location. Of
course, if your family is enrolled in Tricare Dental Plan, contact the Health
Benefits Advisor (HBA) at the Naval Health Clinic who will help you locate a
participating dentist - this will save you time, money, and paperwork.
