Valdez is fairly isolated, since it is at the end of the Richardson Highway. It is 305 road miles from Anchorage and 2,361 driving miles from Seattle, WA.
The three ways to reach the community are by driving, flying or taking the Alaska Marine Highway System (state ferries). Ferries from the south, originating in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, travel to Valdez twice monthly in the summer and less frequently during the winter months. The trip takes four days from Prince Rupert.
There are daily 40-minute flights from Anchorage to Valdez via a regional airline, ERA.
