From spring into the early winter, Hampton Roads/Peninsula has a
festival for area residents interested in everything. Family-oriented
events with lots of food, folks and fun, the festivals draw hundreds and
thousands of people to cities and counties across the Peninsula, Middle
Peninsula, and Southside. Call the contact numbers for more
information, since dates and locations are subject to change. The Hampton Roads
area has a lot to offer in the recreation area. There are many
opportunities to enjoy water sports. All you have to do is take that
first step out of the air conditioning and into the heat and humidity.
On
the Peninsula, three cool spots for hot activity are Huntington and Newport News
Park and Buckroe Beach in Hampton.
Once you cross the Hampton Roads
Bridge-Tunnel to reach the beach, the activities for waterbugs seem
endless. Our waters are brimming with sailboats and
motorboats. All cities and counties boast of boat launching
facilities.
Fishermen can pack poles, bait, snacks and head for piers,
the surf or put out their boats on a host of lakes, rivers, the Chesapeake Bay,
and of course the Atlantic Ocean.
Another popular sport is
golf. Peninsula residents have a choice of professional quality
courses to play almost year-round. Courses such as Kingsmill, Ford's
Colony, the Golden Horseshoe and Kiln Creek Golf & Country Club provide
luxurious courses and amenities. Public courses area also available
in many of the cities and counties.
