SPECIAL EDUCATION NEEDS
The State of Hawaii serves children
with special learning conditions or challenges in the public school
system.
The definition of a Special Need is a family member
who has a diagnosed and professionally documented long-term medical, physical,
psychological, mental, or educational condition. Information and
enrollment forms for the Coast Guard Special Needs Program are available, as
well as access to civilian and military resources.
The
Special Education Program is designed to enable challenged students to achieve
their full potential. The Special Services Section of the Central Oahu District
Superintendent's Office must certify all students in the program. An
Individualized Education Plan(IEP)is developed for each student who enters the
program. All regulations pertaining to Public Law 94-142 are adhered
to. Work-Life's Family Resource Specialist, an IEP advocate, should
be contacted for additional information.
