Welcome to Integrated Support Command Cleveland and the Ninth Coast Guard District located on the shores of Lake Eire in Cleveland, Ohio.

The following is an overview of the units in the Cleveland area:

Integrated Support Command (ISC) Cleveland

Intergrated Support Command (ISC) Cleveland is located in the Anthony J. Celebrezze Federal Building on the corner of East Ninth Street and Lakeside Avenue in downtown Cleveland.

The ISC was commissioned on June 25, 1996 and consists of four divisions; Comptroller; Force Optimization and Training; Worklife; and Personnel Services.  The ISC provides personnel administration/management; reserve management; human resource management; worklife; and comptroller support services to the operating units in the Ninth District Area of Responsibility.  The ISC also oversees the North Coast Regional Exchange System and the management of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation program for the Ninth District.

Ninth District

The Ninth District (D9) covers the eight states which border the Great Lakes covering over 295,000 square miles of land and portions of the Great Lakes.  The Ninth District has 108 units in all.

The Ninth District offices are located in the Celebrezze Federal building and house the District Commander, Chief of Staff, Command Master Chief, Office of Civil Rights, Chaplain, Legal Office, Public Affairs, Marine Safety Division, Aids to Navigation, Auxiliary Affairs, Bridges, SAR Branch, and the Resources and Planning Division.

Civil Engineering Unit

The Civil Engineering Unit (CEU) is also located in the Celebrezze Federal building but reports to Maintenance and Logistics Command Atlantic, located in Norfolk, VA.  CEU Cleveland spans the Fifth and Ninth Coast Guard District geographic boundaries (covering 28 states).  The CEU has a multi-disciplined staff of dedicated professionals.   There are 47 civilians, 12 officers, 1 enlisted, 4 reservist and 5 student co-ops whose primary mission is to provide high quality engineering and technical support to the field so they may perform their missions.  CEU Cleveland conducts all major shore facilities maintenance and repair, environmental compliance and restoration, real property transactions, AC&I planning and AC&I waterways.

Coast Guard Investigative Service Cleveland

The Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS) is co-located with the Ninth District offices in the Celebrezze Federal Building.  The mission of CGIS is to provide professional investigative and security services to aide in preserving the integrity of our Coast Guard people, to protect the welfare of the Coast Guard personnel, and to support Coast Guard missions worldwide.  CGIS s function is similar to a police/detective agency in a civilian community.

Cutter Neah Bay

The Cutter Neah Bay was commissioned on October 25, 1980 and is a 140-foot Bay Class icebreaking tug.  The ship s primary mission is to open and maintain ice-bound shipping lanes and relieve river flooding caused by ice blockage.  The ship s design also allows her to conduct search and rescue missions, law enforcement missions, maintain aids to navigation such as lighthouses and assist with major oil spills or pollution responses.  In 1996 the Neah Bay became the first U.S. vessel to break ice on all five Great Lakes in a single season.

The Neah Bay is located at the Coast Guard moorings at the foot of East Ninth Street.

Electronics Support Detachment

Electronics Support Detachment (ESD) is physically located at the Coast Guard moorings at the foot of East Ninth Street, adjacent to Lake Erie. ESD Cleveland maintains Electronic, Telephone, and Computer supports for the Northeast Ohio Coast Guard Units. The electronic shop also maintains Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) sites in several locations throughout NorthEast Ohio. EsdCleveland is directed by the Coast Guard Maintenance and Logistics Command Atlantic to complete several other projects throughout Ohio. We are a detached unit of U.S. Coast Guard Electronic Support Unit Cleveland, Ohio.

Electronics Systems Support Unit Cleveland

Electronics Systems Support Unit (ESU) Cleveland is located in the Celebrezze Federal Building.  ESU is an independent Coast Guard Command reporting to and receiving program guidance and direction from the communications division at Maintenance and Logistics Command Atlantic, located in Norfolk, VA.  ESU Cleveland is responsible for providing timely installation, repair and maintenance of all communication systems, computers and electronics used aboard Coast Guard cutters and shore commands within the Ninth Coast Guard District.

Marine Safety Office

Marine Safety Office (MSO) Cleveland is located adjacent to Lake Erie at the foot of East Ninth Street in downtown Cleveland.  The property is commonly referred to as the Cleveland Moorings.  The MSO is also the host command to the Cutter Neah Bay, Station Cleveland Harbor, the Electronics Support Detachment and the Coast Guard Exchange System Club and Package Store.   The MSO mission is to protect the public, the environment, and the waterway s commerce through the prevention and mitigation of commercial and recreational marine accidents.

Naval Engineering Support Unit Cleveland

Naval Engineering Support Unit (NESU) is located in the Celebrezze Federal Building in downtown Cleveland.  The unit mission is to provide direct naval engineering support services to Coast Guard cutters homeported or operating in NESU Cleveland's area of responsibility and to provide the Ninth District with naval engineering technical expertise and advice.

Recruiting Office Cleveland

Recruiting Office Cleveland is located at the Great Northern Mall in North Olmsted.  This office covers all of Northeast Ohio.

Station Cleveland Harbor

Station Cleveland Harbor is located at the Coast Guard Moorings at the foot of East Ninth Street.  The crew performs search and rescue missions, recreational boating safety boardings, maritime law enforcement and aids to navigation duties.

 


 

Cleveland General Information



The City of Cleveland is located on the southern shore of Lake Erie in Cuyahoga County. Cuyahoga County is the largest county in Ohio and home to 45 separate towns or cities.   The Metropolitan Cleveland area actually covers 5 counties (Lorain, Cuyahoga, Medina, Lake and Geauga) all within easy driving distance to downtown Cleveland.

Commuting

The are three interstates that serve the downtown Cleveland area as well as numerous bus lines and a light rail system.  Driving times can be long during rush hours.  If you begin work early (prior to 0700) traffic should not be a big problem.  When looking for housing you will find that a 30 to 60 minute commute will offer a better rental selection.  Parking downtown can be costly with prices ranging from $2.00 per day at the Municipal Lot to $15.00 per day in some of the local parking garages.  The Coast Guard Mass Transit Benefit may be available to you if you choose to utilize the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority bus or rail system.  The Mass Transit Benefit results in free public transportation to and from work via the bus or rail system within Cuyahoga County.

Driving Directions:

Directions to the Anthony J. Celebreeze Federal Building:  From I-71/I-90 exit on East Ninth Street and head north.  The Federal Building is located on the left hand side of the road at the corner of East Ninth Street and Lakeside Avenue.  There is VERY limited street parking so be prepared to park in one of the local parking garages.

From Rt. 2 use the East Ninth Street Exit.  Head south on East Ninth Street and the Federal Building will be on the right hand side of East Ninth at the corner of Lakeside Avenue.

Directions to the Cleveland Coast Guard Moorings:  From I-71/I-90  exit on East Ninth Street and head north.  You will cross over the Shoreway (Route 2).  At the stop sign continue heading North.  The Moorings are located on the right hand side of the road across from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

From Rt. 2 use the East Ninth Street Exit.  Head North on East Ninth Street.  At the stop sign continue North.  The Moorings will be on the right hand side of the road.

Billeting

There are no government owned quarters or transient quarters in the Cleveland area.  There is a VERY limited lease program in the area.  You are advised to contact the local housing office as soon as possible to determine your lease eligibility and obtain housing referrals.  Please visit the Relocation Webpage for more information on temporary quarters options.

Child Care

There are no Coast Guard or DOD childcare centers in the area.  There is a childcare center located in the Federal Building.  This center requires a registration fee and deposit and usually has a waiting list.  The hours are Monday through Friday from 0615 to 1800.  It is advisable that you contact the center directly for more information or to obtain the expected waiting list time.  You may also contact the ISC Cleveland Work-Life Family Resources Specialist at 216-902-6353 or 1-800-872-4957 ext. 309 or the Cuyahoga County Starting Point Program at 216-575-0061.
