there is something for everyone.
The Cleveland Metroparks zoo allows you
to experience 3300 animals from all seven continents on 165
acres. There is also a 2 acre Rain Forest that features wildlife from
the jungles of Africa, Asia and the Americas.
The Metroparks often called
the "Emerald Necklace" offers over 20,000 acres of park lands. There
are over 70 miles of "all purpose trails" (cycling, walking, running and in-line
skating). There are also bridle trails, hiking trails, physical
fitness trails and even a solar system walk. The Metroparks also
offers boating, fishing, swimming, cross country skiing, ice fishing, sledding,
nature centers, golf, tobogganing, October Hayrides, picnic areas and monthly
educational and special programs.
Close by is the Cuyahoga National
Recreation Area (CVNRA). The CVNRA has over 33,000 acres filled with
opportunities for hiking, picnics, bike trails and water
sports. There is a 20 mile trail that follows the Ohio & Erie Tow
Path used for hiking and biking. The CVNRA also offers the Cuyahoga
Valley Scenic Railroad with daily trips from Independence to
Akron. There are also Lock Demonstrations daily from Memorial Day
through Labor Day.
Holden Arboretum located in Kirtland is considered the
largest Arboretum in the Nation with 3100 cares and 6 miles of trails
onsite.
Hale Farm & Village located in Bath lets you step back in
time to the year 1848 on a working farm during that period. You will
meet the Hale Family, visit the farm and have the opportunity to experience
artisans demonstrating glassblowing, blacksmithing, pottery making, weaving and
other crafts.
Cleveland is also home to major league sports teams in all
sports. Baseball-Cleveland Indians; Football-Cleveland Browns;
Soccer-Cleveland Crunch; Basketball-Cavaliers.
Almost every city offers a
Community Recreation Center. The Recreation Centers offer a variety
of opportunities from exercise facilities to youth sports teams, some even offer
indoor ice skating rinks. When you decide on the area that you will
be residing in contact your local Department of Recreation to see what's
available.
