Single Family Homes. The majority of homes in South
Florida are "ranch" style, one-story homes without basements or
attics. Florida has an informal lifestyle and children play outside
all year round. However, for indoor comfort, the majority of homes
are air-conditioned.
Patio and Cluster Homes. These homes are
found in the newer areas of the suburbs. They are unattached homes,
many two-story, on very small lots. Most feature fenced garden areas,
two or three bedrooms with two baths.
Villas and
Townhouses. These are one or two level attached
units. They offer one to three bedrooms, corresponding baths, and
often a porch or patio. In most cases, a renter or buyer of a unit
must receive the approval of the homeowner's association prior to leasing or
closing.
Condominiums. The majority of multiple housing is
found in condominiums. In the suburbs, most buildings are from two to
six stories high. On the waterfront, buildings could be eight to
thirty stories. Most offer one to three bedrooms with corresponding
bathrooms. Pools, tennis courts, and other amenities, such as meeting
rooms, are usually common. Condominium associations require buyer
approval.
