The U.S. Coast Guard and Department of the Navy have partnered
with Adecco, the world's largest employment agency, to create Career
Accelerator, a Military Spouse Employment Program. This partnership
was formed following recent successful pilot programs in Quantico, VA and
Jacksonville, FL.
Career Accelerator is a portable career program
offering career counseling, training and job placement at no cost to the
military or spouses. Adecco places people in a wide range of
positions, from clerical, administrative, data entry, financial, engineering,
information technology, light industrial, and call center. There is
no minimum education or skill level required for the program.
Registrants
have access to free self-paced software and keyboard training, and local
seminars to improve their skills. Registrants are also eligible for
benefits such as vacation and holiday pay, 401(k) and tuition
assistance. All benefits are transferable to any of the nearly 1,500
Adecco offices throughout the United States and Puerto
Rico. Registration is free, and registrants receive a VIP card
identifying their enrollment in the program.
Adecco is also the primary
vendor to Fed Source - a Department of Treasury contracting
mechanism. As a result, they are able to coordinate with the military
to fill contracting positions on military installations and at local federal
agencies.
It is widely acknowledged that frequent moves present
employment challenges for military spouses and their career
advancement. This military-sponsored spouse employment program also
recognizes the affect spouse employment has on military retention, and the
important contributions military spouses make to their families and this
nation.
