If you are looking for Permanent Employment, there are a number of resources and routes for you to choose.

NETWORKING:

Did you know that statistics show that 89% of jobs are found through networking and a large majority of these jobs are never even advertised?  How do you plug into the "Hidden Job Market" as they call it?  The answer is Networking!  That means - move your mouth!  We all have experience networking. We may ask others where a good place to eat is or parents may ask others about schools for their children.  It's all about getting information from others.  If you are looking for a job, tell everyone!  Think of the people in your immediate circle such as family members, friends, fellow church members, hairstylist or barber, apartment manager, etc....  You never know whom these people know?  They may have a brother-in-law who owns their own business and is looking for an Office Manager or a Sales Representative?  If you pursue this route, have a copy of your resume on you at all times or at least a business card.  You never know when you may need it!

AGENCY FOR WORKFORCE INNOVATION:

One major resource in the local area is the Agency for Workforce Innovation.  They are the state employment agency under the Department of Labor and Employment Security.  There are several offices throughout the local area.  They offer on-line computer databanks with various job opportunities.  Job search can be done under a specific zip code or type of career field.  Private sector and State of Florida job opportunities are listed.  For office locations, consult the State of Florida government section of the telephone book.  Their job listings are also accessible via the Internet.

FEDERAL EMPLOYMENT:

There are several federal agencies in the area.  For job listings, contact the individual agency's Personnel or Human Resources office or view them on the Internet.

STATE EMPLOYMENT:

If you would like to work for the State of Florida, job vacancies can be viewed at a local Workforce Employment Opportunity office or on the Internet.  You may also want to contact the individual state agency's Personnel or Human Resources office.  Don't forget, state universities are also State of Florida employers.

COUNTY EMPLOYMENT:

If you would like to work for Miami-Dade or Broward County, contact the Personnel or Human Resources office of that County or visit the Internet for job listings.

CITY EMPLOYMENT:

If you would like to work for a city within Miami-Dade or Broward County, contact the Personnel or Human Resources office for that city.  Don't forget, Miami is not the only city in Miami-Dade County!

THE INTERNET:

The Internet offers more job listings than you could possibly imagine!  Since our society is becoming more and more technology-driven, this is the wave of the future for companies/agencies to list their job announcements both private and public sector.  If you have access to the Internet, check for job listings with the particular company/agency that you are interested in working for on the Internet before getting in your car and driving across town to view job listings or spending hours on the phone fumbling through an automated job listing hotline. You'll be amazed at the number of job listings on the Internet.  If you are searching for job listings by career-field and not by company/agency, there is a multitude of Job Listing Databanks on the Internet.  You can either do a keyword search for the job such as "Nursing jobs in Miami" or "Accounting." The various state employment agencies also have their computer databanks accessible via the Internet - great for long-distance job search!

TRANSITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM:

If you are a Coast Guard member who is separating or retiring within the next year, contact the ISC Miami's Transition & Relocation Manager at 800-872-4957 ext. 307.
