For motor vehicles, California Law requires that the vehicle be
either registered and licensed in the member's home state or the state of
California. If the vehicle was register in other than the member's
home state (state in which last assigned), a waiver is granted until the tags
require annual renewal. For non-California residents, if
they complete a Certificate of Military Exemption [available from the Family
Support Center], they can become exempt from the portion of the regular
licensing fees normally collected in lieu of personal property
tax. In California this is the entitled the "Vehicle License
Fee".
