Tooele Army Depot holds various employee events such as Depot

Prevention Month.SKIING There are 11 alpine ski resorts with 1-1/2 hours driving
time from Tooele. Terrain ranges from beginner to expert, at
elevations ranging from 5500 feet to ever 10,000 feet. With annual
snowfall of 300 inches or more, Utah's ski resorts boast the best snow
conditions in the world. There are also hundreds of miles of
cross-country ski trails in the area. Some are in the ski resorts,
while others are in national and Bureau of Land Management
forests. Cross-country skiing can also be done on the hills in Tooele
City many winters.
FISHING The nearest fishing area is Settlement Canyon
Reservoir, located in Settlement Canyon in Tooele City.
HUNTING Hunting
is permitted for antelope, mule deer, elk, pheasants, doves, chukars, and
rabbits in Tooele County.
CAMPING AND HIKING Numerous camping and hiking
opportunities are available in Tooele County. Campsites range from
improved to backcountry. Picnic and camping areas are found
throughout the many canyons as well as on Bureau of Land Management public land
in the valleys.
SCENIC BACKWAYS The Bureau of Land Management and
National Forest Service has designated five Tooele County roads "Scenic
Backways." These Scenic Backways provide history and scenic beauty to
be discovered by departing conventional routes and venturing off the beaten
path. Surface and conditions vary from pavement and graded gravel to
unmaintained dirt roads, however, all may be traveled in a passenger car. The
following three Scenic Backways are in close proximity to Tooele City. (Note:
These backways cross much isolated territory, so be
prepared!): MIDDLE CANYON ROAD - Turn East up
Vine Street in Tooele City and travel straight up Middle Canyon. A
side spur near the top offers a spectacular overlook of Kennecott Copper Mine,
the largest open pit copper mine in the world. The roads continues
over the mountains and offers beautiful views of the mountains, valleys, lakes,
and cities in Tooele and Salt Lake
County. SOUTH WILLOW ROAD - This backway
originates six miles south of Grantsville and winds west through the
Wasatch-Cache National Forest for eight miles to the Deseret Peak Wilderness
Area. This route leads to hiking trails in the Deseret Peak
Wilderness Area and features several narrows where rock cliffs tower on both
sides. PONY EXPRESS TRAIL - This 133 mile
long trail takes you through several interpretive stops along the way which mark
former Pony Express station sites. A popular stop is Fish Springs,
