Personnel arriving with an exceptional family
member should contact the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP), office upon
arrival. The office is located in the ACS, Bldg 1015,
570-895-7509. The EFMP is designed to provide assistance to the
children and adult dependents of eligible military personnel. These
are individual cases and should be referred to EFMP so that all services and
education may be coordinated for the inbound personnel. Dependents
who are emotionally, physically, mentally challenged are provided treatment
under this program. This assistance may be in the line of counseling,
special medical or educational assistance, and financial
assistance.
Military members with an exceptional family
member are required to enroll in the EFMP.
The EFMP maintains a listing
of on- and off-base resources to assist families with all areas of need, and
provides referrals as needed.
EFMP Support Groups are held
the first Friday of every month at 0930.
Early Childhood Intervention
(ECI);
Provides diagnostic and educational services for children under age 3
who have a special need. Most services are free; some are on a
sliding fee scale.
Pocono Mountain School
Distirct (PMSD)
Provides for educational needs of children over
age 3 who have a special need, including those with a hearing impairment. When
PCSing to Tobyhanna, bring copies of all paperwork: medical records, school
records, documentation of how the child was tested (results are valid for 3
years from the date of the test). Parent/guardian should first contact the
principal of the school in which the child is/will be
enrolled.
Head Start/Early Head Start
Provides free
education for eligible pre-school age children, during the school year. There is
often a wait list for this program.
Burnley Employment and Rehabilitation
Services:
Individuals who are diagnosed with mental illness, mental
retardation, or physical disabilities are eligible. Individuals must
be 18 years of age or older, must be self-medicating without supervision, and
must have the stamina to work a minimum of eight hours a day.
