DRIVING
Natick SSC, and other local military
installations, enforces Massachusetts Motor Vehicle
laws. Installation rules are published in Natick Memorandum 190-5,
"Motor Vehicle Traffic Supervision" which is available at the Law Enforcement
Division building at the main gate. Their telephone number is
508-233-4527.
Violations of traffic laws may result in heavy fines,
suspension, or revocation of on-Post driving privileges.
Unless otherwise
posted, the maximum speed limit on Natick SSC is 15 mph. If you
travel to Hanscom AFB, their maximum speeds are 25 mph on base roads, 10 mph in
parking lots, and 15-mph entering/exiting the gates.
Seat belts are
mandatory on and off Post for vehicle operators and passengers. Operators are
responsible for ensuring all occupants comply with the seat belt rule, and may
be cited if they or any passengers are not in compliance. Failure to comply may
also lead to suspension of Post driving privileges.
While riding in a
motor vehicle, children under age 5 must be fastened to a properly adjusted car
seat with a seat belt. Army Community Service has car seats
available for loan.
State law requires that motorists must not move their
vehicles until they clean all the snow, ice or other obstructions from the
windshield, rear and side windows, etc. Removing the snow and ice
covering your installation decals will also expedite your entry onto the
installation. Invest in a good heavy duty ice scraper.
Please, don't carry
more passengers than your auto was designed for!
MOTORCYCLES
Before
you may ride a motorcycle on the installation, you must either show proof of
completion of a motorcycle safety class. Keep any previous
certificates since the installation does not conduct motorcycle safety
classes. Contact the HHD Training NCO for information on locations of
classes. Required equipment includes protective headgear, eyeglasses,
goggles or a face shield, if the motorcycle is not equipped with a windshield, a
rearview mirror, directional lights and flashers, a muffler, fenders, horn,
brakes, license plate, and registration card. Your drivers license
must be endorsed for motorcycle use.
