Sheppard's hospital, under administration of the 82d Medical Group, is one of eight Air Force regional hospitals. It medically supports ten other bases in the southwest.
APPOINTMENTS: Patients are seen by appointment only. Services are provided to active duty, dependents, retirees and their dependents, in that order. Appointments in internal medicine, neurology and other specialty clinics are made only after the patient has been seen in the Medicine Clinic.
Parents are encouraged not to bring children to sibling's or parent's appointments. Providers have had trouble discussing diagnoses and plan of care with parents who are distracted by attending to children other than the patient. Additionally, some children have fallen against sinks or off chairs when not supervised closely, increasing their risk of harm. Members on flying status and their families are seen in the aeromedical services clinic.
MILITARY SAME DAY APPOINTMENTS: Active duty personnel (non-flyers) with acute illness should call the hospital appointment line at 940-676-1847 starting at 7:00 a.m. for a same day appointment. Active duty personnel (flyers) should call the Flight Medicine Office to set up a same day appointment. All flyers requesting "return to flying status" should report to the Flight Medicine Office 7:30 a.m.-8:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m., Monday-Friday.
