The Shaw Family Support Center resource room has several computers available for members and their families to utilize during their job search.  The computers in the Center are equipped with Microsoft Office so individuals can compose and construct resumes.  There are approximately 450 appropriated civilian positions at Shaw AFB, including clerical, trades and crafts, technical and professional positions. Employment opportunities depend on skills, grade/salary requirements, and appointment eligibility. Relocating spouses of active duty military who are currently AF employees should contact the Shaw Civilian Personnel Office, DSN: 965-1395, COM:  895-1395 upon arrival.  Family members who are not AF employees may apply through the Air Force Personnel Center (AFPC). AFPC accepts resumes from individuals eligible for a non-competitive appointment (transfer, reinstatement and prior military) as well as people interested in temporary and summer hire positions. Instructions can be obtained on line at the web address below or by calling 1-800-699-4473. Announcements for permanent civil service positions, including other federal agencies in Sumter, Columbia, and Florence, can be found on the Office of Personnel Management website or any of the employment websites listed on our resource room computers.

Other employers on Shaw AFB include Non-appropriated Funds (NAF).  Anyone interested in a NAF job should visit the NAF office for a list of available jobs.  Clients are encouraged to fill out an application that will remain on file for 90 days.  After 90 days, the applicant must reapply.  For more information, call DSN: 965-1574 or COM:  895-1574.  AAFES - Individuals interested in working for AAFES should visit the AAFES website listed below to obtain an application and apply for a position.  Defense Commissary Agency (DECA) - Commissary positions are all civil service positions.  Student hires, store workers and sales stores checkers can stop by the commissary for paperwork that will tell them how to apply for positions with DECA.  Student hires must be at least 16 years of age, going to school full-time and maintain a C average.  For more information, call DSN: 965-1281 COM:  895-1281.
