District 17, geographically the smallest district in the state,
is located in the areas surrounding the city of Sumter. It serves
about 9400 students in seven elementary, three middle schools, and one high
school. All of the district's schools are accredited by the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools and the State Department of
Education.
District Two, with two high schools, four middle schools and
eleven elementary schools, serve more than 10,000 students living in the 676
square mile area of District Two. This district educates children
living on Shaw AFB and other areas surrounding Sumter
County.
Registration for both schools is easy. Prior to moving parents
should sign a release form for their children's records. The new
school will request these records after the child is
registered. Parents should let the new school know if their children
have been enrolled in gifted programs or special education classes. Federal law
requires all students over five years of age to have a Social Security card.
