Seymour Johnson is located in a moderate cost of living area, as
reflected by Goldsboro's average median income compared to the North Carolina
average; wages and salaries in the Seymour Johnson area are lower than the state
average.
The unemployment rate is less than 5.3%.
It is often
difficult for family members of Seymour Johnson students to locate employment,
because employers usually prefer to hire someone long-term.
Due to the
mobile nature of the military lifestyle, individuals with education and/or
experience in the health care and education fields often are more successful in
finding employment upon relocation than are individuals in other career
fields. Because of this, and the relatively low wages paid in the
local area, many spouses choose to improve their future employment prospects
while at Seymour Johnson, through training or education, rather than seeking
employment while their spouse is assigned here. There are good
educational opportunities for nursing, dental professions and education in the
area - please see the "Education" section for more
information.
North Carolina Employment
Security Commission (ESC) offers numerous services for job
seekers. There is a satellite office at Seymour Johnson; where you
have your employment information inputted in the ESC database. Then
you can be referred to the jobs on this website. For more
details visit the NC ESC website at the

Center at Wayne Community College that provides management assistance to present
and prospective small business owners.
