base. This child care is not free ($3.00 per hour for each child;

The School Age Care Program, housed in
the Youth Center, has maintained accreditation since 1999, provides before and
after school care during the school year and full-day camp during the summer
months for youth 5 to 12 years of age. The Center strives to provide
children with activities, games, and fun and ensure they get to and from the
bus. This program expands to "all day" care when school is closed for
special occasions or teacher conferences. Cost varies and is based on
total family income.
The Family Child Care Program, conveniently located
in the Community Center, is designed to provide an alternative to child
development center care by providing childcare in on-base
housing. For parents looking for a smaller home-like environment,
which provides more one-on-one interaction, Family Child Care is the
answer. Parents who use the program can be secure in the knowledge
their children are being cared for in a safe, healthy and loving
environment. All licensed providers are CPR and first aid certified
and are required to successfully complete an intensive training
program. Prior to becoming licensed, providers must meet stringent
medical screening requirements and background checks, obtain liability insurance
and receive the approval of the Mission Support Group Commander to operate a
Family Child Care Home on the installation. A list of licensed
providers may be obtained at the Child Development Center, Youth Center, Family
Child Care Office, and the Family Support Center. Additional programs
sponsored by the Family Child Care Program include: Extended Duty
Care, Child Care for PCS (20 hours free child care for member's PCSing -- must
be used within 60 days of arrival or departure), and Child Care for
Volunteers. Family Child Care Providers on base also offer care
before and after school.
Numerous child care centers are
available in the Goldsboro local community with rates of $65-$120 for one child
per week. Hourly rates are $3.00 and up. The Family Y,
WAGES Child and Family Development Center, and the Boys & Girls Club of
Wayne County also provide before and after school and summer
programs.
