All personnel should visit the U.S. Army
Garrison-Michigan Housing Referral Office prior to making a commitment for off
base housing. The Housing office maintains listings of available rentals in the
area as well as information on home sales. You will be provided a rental listing
within the price ranges you desire upon request from the Housing Referral Office
(subject to availability).
Average apartment rentals are
approximately; 1 BR- $570-$650. 2 BR-
$700-$900. 3 BR- $820-$1140.
SECURITY
DEPOSITS:
A security deposit equal to 1 or 2 months' rent is
required on most rental units. It is primarily used to cover damages and unpaid
bills. When the tenants vacates the dwelling the owner has 30 days (by law) to
either return the deposit or deliver an itemized statement of any damage or
loss, together with any balance of the security deposit. Tenant must leave a
forwarding address with the landlord.
PET FEES: Some
landlords allow pets; however, the owner of the pet accepts full responsibility
for all damages caused by the pet, and a nonrefundable pet fee is normally
required.
MILITARY CLAUSE: Each military tenant should
insist that a "military clause" be inserted into his/her lease. The wording of
the clause may permit the tenant to end his/her lease on 30 days written notice
to the landlord with a copy of PCS orders attached. This notice should be given
at the beginning of the month when rent is paid to cover the same period.
