The Family Advocacy Program(FAP) is a specialized program that enhances family life skills through education in parenting, relationship enhancement, child safety, and troop education. The SCS Soldier & Family Readiness (Family Advocacy) Program provides prevention and education training in the areas of Child abuse/Neglect and Spouse Abuse.

PROTECTIVE SERVICES (CHILD ABUSE/NEGLECT & SPOUSE ABUSE:
Protective Services for child abuse and neglect problems.  Abused children are helpless unless you help... if you suspect a child is abused or neglected, call the DoD police at (586) 307-2621 (on base), or Macomb County Protective Services Unit at (586) 412-6109 (off base).  For 24 hour reporting, to include nights and weekends (off base) call (586) 254-1513.  The following support services are available if you suspect or are experiencing any of these problems:

FAMILY ADVOCACY) PROGRAM PREVENTION, EDUCATION, AND AWARENESS WORKSHOPS/TRAININGS:

The Family Advocacy Program is more than an intervention program and frequently partners with other local organization such as the Employee Assistance Program, Chaplain, and the Community Health Nurse to provide diverse health and wellness workshops and trainings. Workshops and classes include Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (offers information and guidance on the long-term goals of parenting, and provide skills that can increase enjoyment and effectiveness as a parent), Stress Management (gives individual and group guidance in dealing with pressures that occur in everyday life), Change Management (focuses on managing and coping with organizational changes and transition in the workplace.), and conflict resolution among others, Conflict Resolution-A workshop that provides training in the areas of learning to settle disagreements peacefully.

Other Awareness Workshops include: Domestic Violence Awareness-A workshop that officers insight into the problem of domestic violence. Child Abuse-Prevention and education training is offered as a means of bringing more awareness and understanding to this problem in our society.  Couples Communication-Individual interpersonal skills as a means of helping couples to relate better to each other are taught in this workshop. Anger Management-Training to assist individuals to recognize the cause of anger and deal with it in a positive manner. Dating Violence-and Rape and Sexual Assault-Presentations that address prevention, education, reporting, coping with, and resources available in the community are also scheduled periodically in partnership with other organizations.

PARENTING PROGRAMS

New Parent Support Program (NPSP) -- The NPSP is a home visitation program for military families with children ages three and under, and expectant parents.  Home visitors are social workers that will visit in the home to focus on parenting and other family issues, along with providing support and referrals.

UNIT EDUCATION & TRAINING

Family Violence Awareness -- A one to two hour educational program on the dynamics and cycle of family violence.  This unit training is required annually. Family Violence Awareness presentations can also be scheduled for Family Readiness/Support Groups, Officer/Enlisted Groups, and other interested organizations.

EXCEPTIONAL FAMILY MEMBER PROGRAM(EFMP)

This is a Department of the Army mandated enrollment program that works with other military and civilian agencies to provide comprehensive and coordinated medical, educational, housing, community support and personnel services to families with special needs.  An exceptional family member is a family member, regardless of age, with any physical, emotional, developmental or intellectual disorder that requires special treatment, therapy, education, training or counseling.  EFMP families must in- and out-process through the SCS Family Readiness Center.  For more detailed information about the EFMP, click on its link under Health & Wellness category.

VICTIM ADVOCACY PROGRAM(VAP)

Victim Advocates help empower victims to make decisions that will aid in improving their quality of life. They provide victims with information on their rights, help locate shelters, establish safety plans, accompany victims to court proceedings and/or meetings with lawyers, police and command.  They also make referrals to local resources.
