TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
The Tuition Assistance
(TA) program provides financial assistance for voluntary off-duty education
programs in support of a soldier's professional and personal self-development
goals. All soldiers (officers, warrant officers and enlisted) on active duty and
National Guard and Army Reserve on active duty pursuant to Title 10 or Title 32
U.S. Code, are authorized to participate in the TA program. Active duty members
of other Services who are supported by the Army under provisions of an
Inter-service Support Agreement also are eligible.
Military on active
duty can receive tuition assistance (TA) for $4,500 annually at the rate of 100%
of tuition costs. There is a maximum cap of $250 per semester hour.
Before obtaining TA, soldiers must contact an education counselor to
declare an educational goal and an education plan. The Army Continuing Education
System (ACES) requires that a degree plan be in the Soldiers Education File DA
form 669 maintained at Selfridge for all TA granted through Selfridge. A Degree
Plan is an outline of required courses for a degree and is signed by a counselor
from the college granting the degree. It usually lists all transfer
credit and CLEP credit courses accepted for a degree as well as courses that
must be completed at the college. Courses listed on the DA form 2171 that
correspond to courses on the approved degree plan will be approved if received
before the last day of late registration. Soldiers who do not have a degree plan
must contact the counselor at the Selfridge Education Center.
