Known locally as the "Metro East", the area surrounding Scott Air
Force Base encompasses a large portion of southwestern Illinois and eastern
Missouri including St. Louis. The area is home to many eclectic and
interesting communities. From apple picking in Belleville to a world
class zoo in St. Louis - opportunities abound for shopping and other leisure
activities.
Shopping abounds with both national chain and small local
stores. The sales tax varies by county. St. Clair County
where Scott is located has 7.10% on general merchandise, 1.75% on
food/drugs/medical appliances, and 6.5% on vehicles. Madison county
has 6.60% on general merchandise, 1.25% on food, drugs, and medical appliances,
and 6.50% on vehicles.
