No matter how well you've planned, emergencies do happen.  What should you do in case of an emergency while you are traveling?

First of all make sure you have all your important papers with you - not packed with your household goods.  Numbers for your Commander, Orderly Room,  and your sponsor can be invaluable in case of emergency while in transit.  A SITES booklet may prove to be quite useful during an emergency.

The American Red Cross is always available for emergency aid anywhere you may be. Contact the nearest chapter (phone numbers are usually listed in the white pages of the local phone directory).

Plan for the unexpected and it probably won't happen.    The Air Force Aid Society helps relieve the distress of Air Force members and their families and assists them to finance their education.  A branch of The Air Force Aid Society is located at the Family Support Center.  Emergency assistance through interest free loans or grants or a combination of both is available.  Examples of some of the financial needs that could qualify you to receive emergency assistance include: basic living expenses such as food, utilities, rent\mortgage; emergency leave travel expenses; car repair for an essential vehicle; and assistance may be given to assist with funeral expenses for a current spouse, dependent child, or dependent parent of an active duty member not covered under SGLI.

Other services are available to help with dental care, educational assistance, respite care, and home day care.  Special programs include Give Parents a Break and  ChildCare for PCS.

Those eligible for assistance are active duty Air Force members and their families, retired Air Force personnel and their families and Reservists on active duty under US Code Title 10.

After duty hours, Air Force Aid Society personnel may be contacted through the Command Post at 256-5891.
