It's not easy to move to a new area and feel at home right
away. It takes time to learn about a new area and to make
friends. To help you to find out about Colorado Springs, Schriever
AFB and the Youth Center at Peterson AFB will assign a penpal. Would
you like to receive a personal letter from a penpal? Would you like
to get to know someone, your own age, prior to your arrival? Then,
complete this form and mail it to the address at the bottom. We will
pass on your request for a penpal to someone your age who will begin
corresponding with you.

The
Youth Activities Center at Peterson AFB offers ongoing activitIes for children 6
to 12 years old and teenagers. Year round sporting events, malls for shopping,
miniature golf, game arcades, movie theaters - something for everyone - that may
be the biggest attraction for teens. On base, the Youth Center has a
very active teen program which includes seminars, trips, special events, fund
raisers, Youth Employment Skills (YES), and there is even a monthly newsletter
called Teen Inquirer.
The following information is from the local
newspaper, Gazette Telegraph's annual issue of "The Best of the
Springs." Each year there is a readers' poll which reflects
everyone's favorites.
The Best Teen Hangout is Colorado Springs Sky Sox
games! They are an awesome place for teens to
hangout. These games are important to the community because they
offer a chance for locals to support minor league baseball players as they work
their way to the big leagues. As teens, the games are a place to be
with friends, enjoy Colorado's weather, and cheer on the Sky Sox. The
inexpensive entry fee and the variety of food makes the game a great hangout on
weekends and weekdays. The Citadel and Chapel Hills Malls are also
favorite spots for teenagers.
The Best Burger can be found at Conway's
Red Top. Conway's famous burger, huge and satisfying, is a mere $4.59
($5.19 with cheese). Eat it with fries and their to-die-for
malt. (There are three locations: 1520 S Nevada Ave, 390 N Circle Dr,
and 3589 N Carefree Cir.)
The Best Miniature Golf Course is Mountasia
Family Fun Center; it is the putt-putt palace that sits right off north Academy
Boulevard. It has two courses, a beautiful waterfall and a cave in
which putters must dodge the stalagmites to find the cup. One of the
courses is handicapped-accessible, too. (1825 Dominion Way,
719-594-0760)
The Best Skateboarding can be experienced at Colorado
Springs Skateboard Park. This the best place for miles around for
aerial grabs, kick flips and crooked grinds. Concrete, wheels and
sometimes flesh come together in a killer celebration of goofy-footed
fun. On Mark Dabling Road.
On the serious side, all middle,
junior and senior high schools in the area are accredited by either the state or
the multistate North Central Association, and some are accredited by
both. This accreditation relates to the acceptability of students for
college. El Paso County Public school students fare better than
average on college entrance exams.
