The FFSC Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for placing volunteers within the FFSC, as well as providing information about other area volunteer opportunities with military and civilian organizations. The Volunteer Coordinator provides volunteer orientation and support to all FFSC volunteers, and is available to reseaRch additional opportunities, as well. The Volunteer Coordinator can also assist commands in organizing large-scale volunteer events, either ongoing or on a one time basis. The FFSC has a variety of volunteer opportunities, including Transition & Spouse Employment Assistance, Office Administration, Customer Service, Computer/IT Support, Information & Referral Research Assistance, Relocation Assistance, and additional special projects. Prospective interns are also welcome to contact the Volunteer Coordinator for help in completing special projects for courses in curriculum development, human services, and other educational internships. The FFSC is an approved site for Veterans Affairs Work Study participants, as well. Volunteer opportunities with civilian and military resources are available throughout San Diego, to fit every type of schedule and preferences. The USO of San Diego has evening, weekend, and special event opportunities. The ASYMCA offers transportation to and from all volunteer activities, for single sailors stationed at all three local bases. Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society reimburses volunteers for childcare and mileage, in addition to providing valuable financial counseling and education opportunities. Operation Homefront allows volunteers to work from home, on their own time. Military Outreach Ministries offers opportunities to distribute food and/or bread throughout San Diego County. The American Red Cross has a variety of teaching and disaster response opportunities.
