EarlyLink Preschool and School Readiness
Initiative
? Provides high quality, academically-rich preschool,
comprehensive health/ social services, and child care.

Diego State University, Community-Based English Tutoring Program (CBET), Jewish

Planning
Council State Preschool Program.
? Provides a half-day enrichment class for
preschool children (age 3-5 years prior to entering Kindergarten).
? Families
must meet income eligibility requirements and are encouraged to take an active
part in their child's classroom.
Child Development Centers
? Assist
parents by providing a 12-month educational enrichment program for preschool and
school-age children.
? Centers are open from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Parents of participating children must meet income eligibility requirements and
must also be employed, in a training program, or attending college, or at risk
of abuse or neglect.
Even Start Program
? A collaborative between San
Diego City Schools and San Diego READS.
? Designed to help children and their
families reach their full potential as lifelong learners and active participants
in their communities.
? Improves and expands literacy services to eligible
children and families through interactive literacy activities and
training.
Head Start
? A collaborative between San Diego City Schools
and Neighborhood House Association.
? Federally funded child development
program for low-income young children and their families.
? Provides a
comprehensive, interdisciplinary program to foster development as well as
comprehensive health and social services that are aligned with the district's
physical and mental health services.
? Each class is staffed by a master
teacher, an associate teacher and parent volunteers.
