This information is designed for military and
civilian personnel authorized to ship POVs at government expense. It
is based on entitlements from Joint Federal Travel Regulations (JFTR), Volume I,
for military members and Joint Travel Regulations (JTR), Volume II, for civilian
employees. Check with your local TMO to determine the POV Processing
Center you will use. NUMBER OF POVs YOU MAY
SHIP: One POV owned by you or your dependent
may be shipped at government expense. However, it must be for you or your
dependent's personal use only. If you desire to make your own
arrangements and ship an additional POV, consult your TMO for any restrictions
which may apply. You may be required to pay an import duty on a
second POV. HAVE POV CLEAN (INSIDE AND OUT) ROLL UP ALL
WINDOWS HAVE YOUR ID CARD READY EMPTY THE GLOVE
COMPARTMENT HAVE SEVEN COPIES OF YOUR ORDERS DISCONNECT
VEHICLE ALARMS HAVE YOUR COPY OF DD-788 (POV SHIPPING DOCUMENT)
READY HAVE ONE SET OF KEYS FOR ALL LOCKS BE PREPARED TO
INSPECT YOUR POV FOR LOSS OR DAMAGE FOR ALL LOCKS: HAVE AVAILABLE THE
MAKE, MODEL, COLOR, YEAR, SERIAL NUMBER, AND A VALID SAFETY INSPECTION FROM THE
STATE OF REGISTRATION. HOW TO GET A PRIVATELY OWNED VEHICLE (POV) LICENSE
OVERSEAS: *JAPAN: NEED VALID LICENSE FROM U.S., INTERNATIONAL, OR
MAJOR COMMAND; MUST VERIFY NEAR VISION AND GENERAL HEALTH; MUST BE 18; ATTEND
FORMAL INDOCTRINATION ON JAPANESE TRAFFIC CONDITIONS AND LAWS; ATTEND SAFETY
ORIENTATION; PASS TEST OF SIGNS AND LAWS; NOT POSSIBLE TO EXPORT TESTING TO
CONUS. *EUROPE: ATTEND ORIENTATION CLASS; PASS TEST OF SIGNS AND
LAWS; W/O PROOF OF VALID POV LICENSE, TAKE ROAD TEST. ON REQUEST WILL
PROVIDE TESTING MATERIAL TO CONUS INSTALLATION TO ADMINISTER POV TEST.
*KOREA: U.S. LICENSE HONORED AS TEMPORARY PERMIT FOR 30
DAYS. BILINGUAL LICENSE IS REQUIRED; MUST BE 18; PASS TEST OF SIGNS
AND LAWS; W/O VALID LICENSE FROM U.S., INTERNATIONAL, MUST TAKE ROAD
TEST. NO EXPORT OF TEST TO CONUS.
