Volunteering is a wonderful way to contribute to the community
and improve your feeling of self worth. Whether on the installation
or off, their are opportunites abound in every matter to be
imagined. Whether you want to work with children, aid seniors, or
clean up the environment, there is an organization looking for your
help.
Probably one of the most famous organizations in the area is the
"Living Lands and Waters" group, founded by Chad Pregracke, a native of the Quad
Cities area. This group works to clean up the local rivers and the
shorelines around them. They have received numerous awards and
accolades from across the country. A link to their website is
included in the contacts/links section.
In addition to volunteer
opportunities on Rock Island Arsenal, there are several local agencies that
utilize volunteers, such as the Center for Active Seniors (CASI), the Red Cross,
the YMCA and YWCA and local Boys & Girls Clubs. The United Way of
the Quad Cities InfoLINK is an excellent resource for finding volunteer
opportunities in the area in addition to using volunteers
itself. Consult the contacts/links section for more information.
