The commute in the Quad Cities area is a relatively easy
one. For those individuals and families who choose to live in the
Quad Cities proper their destingation can usually be accessed within 20 minutes
to 1/2 hour. However, this can be delayed if there is a necessity to
cross the Mississippi River bridges. Road Construction is very common
during warmer weather months, so be prepared to adjust your routes as
necessary.
The Quad Cities offers several transportation options
including an airport, city-wide bus system, Greyhound Bus Lines, several taxi
and limo services, and access to Amtrak.
The highways serving the area
include: Interstates 74, 80, 88, & 280; US Highways 6, 34, 61, 67, &
150; and State Highways (IL) 5, 17, 78, 81, 82, 84, 92. & 94 and (IA) 22,
& 130.
There are three major city bus lines servicing the
Quad Cities, which cross the Mississippi River to connect with each
other. Special bus service is also available for the handicapped and
elderly on both sides of the river.
METRO LINK, Rock Island County
Metropolitan Mass Transit District operates Monday through Saturday in Rock
Island, Moline, East Moline, Silvis, Milan, Carbon Cliff, Hampton and
Colona. There is some level of night service on all eleven
lines. There is daily bus service from Moline to Iowa City and to
Viola, Monmouth and Macomb in Illinois. The CityLink bus to Iowa City
will make three round trips daily on weekdays and once on Saturdays and
Sundays. It will stop at Centre Station and at the MetroLink ticket
site at the Quad City International Airport in Moline and then at the University
of Iowa, University Medical Center, the Veterans Hospital and Coral Ridge Mall
in Iowa City.
CITIBUS OF DAVENPORT, serves Davenport community with a
total of twelve fixed routes. Route service is within 1/4 mile of
about 99 percent of the city's residents. Nine routes service
downtown Davenport, four serve the Northpark Shopping Center and two go to Duck
Creek Plaza, Bettendorf. Buses run from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m.
to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Citibus offers service from the Arsenal to
Rock Island and Moline.
BETTENDORF TRANSIT SYSTEM, services the
Bettendorf, Iowa community with the routes including connecting routes to
Moline, Illinois, and Davenport, Iowa. Buses run from 6
a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays. No service on Saturdays or
Sundays.

There are three main waterways in the Quad Cities
area. The Mississippi River has a 9 foot channel, 10 month
navigational season and features 50 barge terminals with 26 being serviced by
rail and interstate. Recreational facilities are also
available. The Rock River and Edwards River are both also navigable
for recreation. The Wapsipinicon River is located slightly North of
the Quad Cities and the Cedar River is slightly to the West. These
both offer many campgrounds along their shores.
The CHANNEL
CAT WATER TAXI is a 48 passenger ferry that connects Moline, Bettendorf, and
Davenport with regular hour-long loops on the river. The water taxi
has space for 20 bicycles.
GREYHOUND BUS LINES have local terminals at
304 W River Drive, Davenport, Iowa and at the Moline-Quad City Airport, Airport
Road, Moline, Illinois.
The closest AMTRACK station is approximately 50
miles from the Quad Cities in Galesburg, Illinois.
